HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-04-2014 Public Access Subcommittee meeting notes North Kohala Community Access Group Meeting Notes June 4, 2014 (Old Courthouse 4:30pm) : Keith Wallis, Toni Withington, Lucy Pasco, Marlene Ching, Margret McFedries, Dave Richardson, Aric Participants . Arakaki, Jack Hoyt, Beth Robinson, Joe Carvalho, Keone MacKillop, Ted Matsuda Akoakoa Point (Bird Cave) Joe will schedule a weekday with Eldridge of Pacific Land Management, for a site visit and let us know. Hapu'u – Kapanaia Kapanaia Bay and A’amakao Gulch is #3 on the PONC list. The PONC list nominations are due in June. Halelua th The planning department has scheduled site visit for June 13. They include Ala Kaha Kai (NPS), landowner, & community members. Owner has flagged proposed trail A total of 5 lots have been listed for Sale. Lot 1 is part of the 5 lots listed (50 acres), and may contain O’hau Heiau. It may be nominated to the PONC. o It can be located, but it would take time & money, so we’ll try to get it marked with GPS. ¨ Kauhola Lighthouse NSTR Halaula Mill Road We need an update from the planning department on the access road from Akoni Pule Highway to the old mill. Were our recommendations on the GOE considered? Ainakea – Makai The landowners will have a surveyor mark the trail and will schedule a site visit. The landowners would like to have community members clear shrubs from the trail. Pahoa Beach The landowners are building a rock wall bordering the access trail. We should contact Larry Brown or Lucus of the planning department to confirm the access trail on the ground with a site visit, & find out if it has been recorded. Upolu Airport - East end of the runway We need an update from the planning department. Upolu Airport - Restoration Interpretive signs have been completed and will be installed later. A grant will be able to provide a biologist to help with the planning and planting of the Naupaka and other vegetation. They will schedule a work day. Kaiholena Lot F The parcel is in escrow. The purchaser has 120 days from the date of signing (about mid-August) to come up with the money. Ala Kaha Kai Trail Association is still seeking the remaining funding of about $50,000 . Kohala Kai The revised GOE has been signed by the planning director and the Mayor Signage will be revised by the landowners with the planning department’s request. Ala Kahakai is working with Council person Willie and Kohala Kai to plan and organize the public meeting. Ala Kahakai is developing the steps and timeline for the creation of the Conservation Easement and has requested that Kohala Kai and the County, via Willie, develop status reports and steps on their processes. Access Group Interfacing with the Action Committee and the County South Kohala CDP Action Committee has requested that representatives from North Kohala Action committee and the Access group attend their next meeting.
