HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-67 MTSC 9-23 minutes Communication No. 2014-67 PCDP Mass Transit Subcommittee minutes, Sept 23, 2014 In attendance: June Conant, Jon Olson, Rusty Jones, Stephanie Bath, Sharon Daun At the PREP Fair, 25 bus surveys were completed. Unfortunately only one was from a regular rider. Below are the stats: Use of Mass Transit: Regular 1 Occasional 14 None 10 Purpose of Rider: Work 3 School 5 Shopping 14 Other 8 Schedule OK now: Yes 1 No 23 Schedule not OK: Yes 24 No 1 (Question was-would you ride bus more if schedule were more convenient) Willing to Transfer: Yes 25 No 0 (Zendo Kern had stated that Tiffany had taken a survey and riders would be unwilling to transfer if hub and spoke system were in place.) Comments included Sunday service, service to airports, express busses in peak hours, more in-depth coverage of subdivisions, better posting of schedules, and better schedules for workers. The current situation regarding the lava and the impact on bus service was discussed. Tiffany Kai's proposed new routes across Railroad and Beach start at Nanawale. Rusty commented that there are 28 acres near the community center which could be used as a possible park and ride or transfer depot. Cooper Center in Volcano was discussed as a transfer center when Chain of Craters Road is back as a viable access out of Puna. The committee felt that this is an opportune time to request that Mass Transit put a hub and spoke system in place now—spokes in lower Puna to Nanawale and spokes to Volcano as secondary hubs. Stephanie made a motion for the PCDP Action Committee to send a written request to Mass Transit to implement the hub and spoke system as outlined in the PCDP now. The motion passed. June will prepare the letter for the committee to approve and Rusty will prepare a proposed route in Nanawale to better serve that community. The next committee meeting will be Tuesday, October 28 at 3:30 pm. Respectfully submitted, June Conant
