Van Bergen Deputy Director Little Fire Ant Treatments Scheduled for Hawaii County Parks As part of its ongoing efforts to control little fire ants at public recreational sites, the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation has scheduled treatments at the following parks: • Waiakeawaena Park in Hilo on Wednesday, October 8 • Na`alehu Park on Thursday, October 9 • Waiakea-Uka Park and Stanley Costales Waiakea-Uka Gym in Hilo on Monday, October 13 • Machado Acres Park in Hilo on Tuesday, October 14 • `Ainaola Park in Hilo on Wednesday, October 15 • `Ainak8 Park in Hila on Thursday nctnher 16 • Hakalau Veterans Park on Thursday, October 16 Weather permitting, the parks scheduled for treatment will be closed in the early morning hours. Signs will be posted informing park patrons of the closure times. The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks park users and the general public for their patience and understanding while it works to control this invasive species.
