Houma Director Kenneth J. Van Bergen Deputy Director `Ahalanui Park to Reopen October 13 The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will reopen `Ahalanui Park in lower Puna on Monday, October 13. Damage caused by recent Tropical Storm Iselle created hazardous conditions in the park, prompting Hawaii County to close the park's popular warm pond as a safety precaution. General contractor William C. Loeffler Construction Inc. repaired the storm - damaged rock walls and concrete walkways forming the pond's perimeter and removed debris deposited into the swimming area. The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks William C. Loeffler Construction Inc. for completing the repair work weeks ahead of schedule, allowing park patrons to return to enjoying this unique recreational site. Starting Monday, October 13, `Ahalanui Park will be opened at 7 a.m. and operate according to normal hours.
