County of Hawaii Camping Permits are required for both tent camping and recreational vehicle campers.
Camping and Pavilion permits must be obtained in advance and they may be purchased in the following ways:

7. REFUND POLICY
a. Requests for refunds for camping permits must be made no less than one business day prior to use date. Refunds will be less
processing fees.
b. Request for refunds for lodging permits must be made no less than 14 days prior to use date. Refunds will be less processing
fees.
c. Requests for refunds for pavilion permits must be made no less than two business days prior to use date.
d Applicant must submit their permit copy to the Main Office before a refund can be processed.
e. A refund check is mailed to the applicant within two to three weeks of the cancellation.

• Adult (18 years old & over) = $5.00* per adult per night . (Non -Residents $20.00* per adult per night)
• Junior (13 to 17 years old) = $2.00* per junior per night. (Non -Residents $20.00* per junior per night)
Children (12 years and under) = $1.00 per child per night . (Non -Residents $20.00 per child per night)
* Additional non-refundable $1.00 online service provider processing fee for Resident and Non -Resident Adults and Juniors
Valid Hawaii State driver's license or Hawaii State ID needed to qualify for resident rates
3. County Code/Chapter 15/Section 15-44. Camping Time Limits: No person shall be allowed to remain at any
one specific camping area for a period longer than one week during the months of June through
August and for a period not longer than two weeks during the other nine months of the year...
4. MAUNA KEA RECREATION AREA RESERVATIONS
a. Cabin Rental Fee = $75.00 per night. Non -Residents $150.00 per night.
b. Bunkhouse Rental Fee = $240.00 per night. Non -Residents $480.00 per night.
C. Security Deposit = $250.00 per cabin/bunkhouse
Bunkhouses are for groups only. Groups must apply and be approved before purchasing a lodging permit. Application
can be submitted online here: https://maunakea.ehawaii.gov
5. PAVILION RESERVATIONS
Picnic pavilion exclusive use fees for non -benefit group activities:
a. Rental Fee = $25.00 per day or $50.00 per day with kitchen use (if applicable)
b. Security Deposit = $50 per pavilion and $25 Key Deposit (if applicable)
6. METHODS OF PAYMENT
a. Cash, money order and travelers checks.
b. Personal checks are accepted only if there is a two -week clearance from the reservation date.
C. Credit cards accepted at Hilo and WHCC Office only and through the online camping website.
10. Additional information:
a. Most facilities with restroom accommodations are usually adequately supplied, however, it is advisable to carry your
own supplies.
b. Before drinking water at our sites, please be sure to check signs where water storage tanks are in use.
C. Campers and pavilion -use patrons are advised to bring their own illuminating devices just in case park lights are not
in working order. Applicants with pavilion -use permits are advised to bring spare light bulbs to the pavilions where
electricity is provided. NO CAMPING IN PAVILIONS.
d. Firewood is not furnished and fires must be confined to self-contained units. Open fires are prohibited.
e. Vehicles should be parked in designated areas only and locked since break-ins are not uncommon. Do not leave
personal belongings unattended. There are no motor home courts, but recreation vehicles are permitted to park in
designated parking areas at the campground.
f. Security guard service is provided only at Kohanaiki, Spencer, Isaac Hale Beach Parks and Mauna Kea Recreation Area. All
other camping and picnic sites do not provide this service. Use good judgment while staying at camp and picnic sites because
some incidents of harassment and other unpleasant experiences have been reported in the past.
g. Please report any unpleasant situations experienced, hazards, acts of vandalism and other accommodation defects found at any
public facilities to our office as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.
h. It is unlawful for any person to take or permit any dog, cat or other domestic animal, whether loose or on a leash or in restraint on
or about any County beach park. This shall not apply to service animals that are trained to perform tasks for people with disabili-
ties or for purposes of law enforcement by law enforcement agencies of the Federal, State or County government. Service ani-
mals are working animals, not pets.
i. If camping at our Mauna Kea cabins/bunkhouse units, please bring your own cots, bedding, blankets, towels, toiletries, first aid,
utensils, paper goods, cleaning supplies, etc. Cabins come with 1 table, 6 chairs, pots/pan, microwave, stove, toilet paper,
broom and dust pan. Bunkhouse units come each with 1 table, 6 chairs, toilet paper, broom and dustpan. Bunkhouse users
have access to the dining hall which has a kitchen furnished with refrigerator/freezer, stove, oven, microwave, sink, counter
space, 14 tables and 84 chairs.
