Pana`ewa Zoo Closing December 18
for Little Fire Ant Treatments
The Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens will be closed temporarily on
Thursday, December 18, so the facility can be treated for little fire ants.
Normal operating hours will resume starting Friday, December 19, when
the zoo will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks zoo patrons and the

treatments aimed at controlling this invasive species in the public's parks.
Located off of Stainback Highway about five miles south of Hilo, the 12 -
acre Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens is the only natural tropical
rainforest zoo in the United States. More than 80 animal species and 100
palm varieties can be found at the zoo. Admission is free.
