Meeting Notes
October 1, 2014 (Old Courthouse 4:30pm)

Akoakoa Point (Bird Cave)
NSTR – Nothing Significant to Report
Hapu'u – Kapanaia
2 non-shoreline parcels are pending sales.
7 parcels are listed on PONC, but there isn’t enough monies.
Halelua
Lots 2, 3,and 4 are in escrow
Kauhola Lighthouse
NSTR.
Halaula Mill Road
The GOE will have the county take 100% of the maintenance
We need an update from the planning department on the status of the GOE.
Ainakea – Makai
NKCAG did a walk thru on Thursday, September 11, 2014.
The trail is surveyed & marked and in good condition.
The landowner may move the pedestrian gate on the trail.

Pahoa Beach
The access path is blocked with a hedge.
The access path was surveyed when they did the lot line adjustment.

We should get Lucus from the Planning Department to do a site visit.
Upolu Airport - East end of the runway
NSTR.
Upolu Airport - Restoration
Kohala Lihikai started a nursery away from the airport to grow ground cover.
Kaiholena Lot F
The Ala Kahakai Trail Association is close to getting the remaining funds for the purchase.
They will apply to Hawaii Island Land Trust (HILT) for the remaining balance.
The Kaiholena – Pao’o area could be used for the initial easement management model.
Kohala Shoreline, LLC
The site visit was planned for Oct. 18, but cancelled due to the hurricane. It has tentatively
been re-scheduled for Nov. 15. Diane Kanealii is coordinating with archaeologist Bob
Rechtman. Those wishing to go should contact her at dianekanealii02@gmail.com
Kohala Kai
Ala Kahakai - NPS has the GOE and is reviewing it at the main office.
Access Group Interfacing with the Action Committee and the County
We weren’t satisfied by the response of the Planning Department.
We will request further clarification.
