HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-01-15 Leeward Planning Commission Minutes LEEWARD PLANNING COMMISSION COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I MINUTES JANUARY 15, 2015 The Leeward Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:35 a.m. in the West Hawai‘i Civic Center, Community Center, Building G, 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole Highway, Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, with Chairman Brandi Beaudet presiding. COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Brandi Beaudet, Thomas Hickcox, Collin Kaholo, Barbara Nobriga, Keith Unger and Thomas Whittemore ALSO PRESENT: Bobby Command (Deputy Planning Director), Jeff Darrow (Planner), Christian Kay (Planner) and Noriko Sauer (Commission Secretary) And three people from the public in attendance. A quorum was present. Chair Beaudet called the meeting to order, and introduced the Commissioners and staff to members of the public. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC – No statements were presented under this section of the agenda. NEW BUSINESS APPLICANTS: ROBERT HIND III AND MARGARET HIND (REZ 14-181) Application for a Change of Zone from an Agricultural-1 acre (A-1a) to a Single Family Residential-20,000 square feet (RS-20) zoning district for approximately 35,414 square feet of land. The property is located west of Spencer Road, approximately 500 feet southwest of the Spencer Road-Hoku‘ula Road intersection, Waimea Homesteads, South Kohala, Hawai‘i, TMK: 6-5-011:030. The Commission took up this item at 9:37 a.m. with no one from the public in attendance. (SEE EXHIBIT A) MINUTES – The Commission took up the following minutes at 9:48 a.m.: December 18, 2014 – It was moved by Commissioner Hickcox that the minutes be approved as submitted. The motion was unanimously carried by a voice vote of all Commissioners. ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS – The Commission took up the following matters at 9:49 a.m.: 1.Status of applications heard by Leeward Planning Commission that are pending before County Council. – Mr. Darrow presented the following updates:  County Council initiated Bill No. 266 relating to subdivision applications: The Council Planning Committee has voted to send a favorable recommendation to the full Council. 1  Planning Director initiated amendment to the Zoning Code relating to regulations for dwellings within the Industrial-Commercial Mixed Zoning: The Council Planning Committee has continued its hearing to allow the Planning Director to address some of the Committee members’ concerns primarily about potential conflicts between industrial and residential uses. ANNOUNCEMENTS – Mr. Darrow announced that the next meeting was scheduled for February 19, 2015, with tentatively several items on the agenda. ADJOURNMENT – There being no further business, at 9:53 a.m., it was moved by Commissioner Hickcox and seconded by Commissioner Nobriga that the meeting be adjourned.
