C • Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96740 (808) 323-4444 Fax (808) 323-4440 WHEREAS, the National Weather Service on December 30, 2013, issued flash flood warning, as heavy rain and flooding occurred; and WHEREAS, on December 30 and 31, 2013, heavy rain and flooding occurred in the South Hilo, North Hilo, Hamakua, Ka'u, South Kohala, and North Kohala Districts of the County of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, due to property damage and/or bodily injury to residents of Hawai'i Island, and the need for government agencies and representatives from the private sector to mobilize and provide immediate services to our island residents, a Civil Defense state of emergency is authorized pursuant to Chapters 127 and 128, Hawaii Revised Statutes, as amended, and Chapter 7, Hawaii County Code. NOW, THEREFORE, I, WILLIAM P. KENOI, Mayor of the County of Hawaii, do hereby proclaim and declare that a state of emergency exists for the entire Hawaii Island, effective 9 o'clock a.m., December 30, 2013, and continuing thereon until further act by this office.
