SUBJECT: Planning Consultant for the Pahoa Regional Town Center Plan and
Wastewater Treatment Study
Thank you for your letter dated March 1 0, 2015 requesting information on the hiring of a
consultant for the Pahoa Regional Town Center Plan and Wastewater Treatment Study.
The process for hiring a consultant began prior to the June 27 Lava Flow that threatened Pahoa
Village and was postponed due to the eminent threat of lava inundation. Although recent activity
has shown very little movement of the flow front, there is still significant activity upslope.
The threat of inundation by the June 27 Lava Flow is still uncertain.
That being said, the Planning Department does not feel it is prudent to proceed at this time but
will keep it under consideration in view of other factors. The County will continue to monitor
the activity of the flow and will continue its efforts to provide for the safety of the Puna
Community.
