Dear Ms. Pinto and Members of the Puna CDP Action Committee
SUBJECT: Letter from Planning Director Kanuha dated March 10, 2015 re: Volcano
Long Range Plan - July 2014
The Volcano Long Range Planning (VLRP) team has received a copy of the above
letter and are very pleased that the Volcano plan has been received so positively by
County Planning. Suggestions by Director Kanuha are extremely helpful, particularly
the suggestion to proceed with implementing projects without reference to seeking
County ordinance for the community plan. We foresee an era of cooperation with the
Action Committee and the County Planning Department, and eagerly look forward to
working with you.
We seek your advice as follows:
1. How can we strengthen the community- Action Committee - Department channel to
ensure efficient communication?
2. Who are the persons in the official channel we should connect with, and what are the
protocols for communication?
3. What is the process for contracting a professional planning consultant who might help
with implementation of a forest canopy special overlay district?
4. Are Planning Department staff available to help us estimate costs, write a justification,
and obtain funds?
