PCDP Mass Transit Subcommittee minutes, April 28, 2015
In attendance: June Conant, Rusty Jones, Jon Olson, and Hannah Hedrick.
Transportation to the airport via the Keaukaha route originated on Monday, April 20. June gave out the new
schedule and reported that from the pier, they could see that the bus was on time during the morning
through noon. She has not verified that the bus stops at the Hilo Airport Post Office.
The deadline for submitting suggestions for the Hawaii County General Plan is looming and submissions need
to be presented at the May PCDP meeting. After reviewing the most recent General Plan, there is virtually
nothing relating to mass transit included. The committee agreed that we should request that the entire 4.2
Mass Transit section of the PCDP be submitted.
Danny Paleka, Councilman for Puna District 5 and the chair of the Council's Public Safety and Mass Transit
Committee, has included the CIP which the PCDP submitted last year for the Mass Transit study to be part of
the new budget. On Friday, April 24, during the presentation of the Mass Transit portion of the budget
requests, he emphasized the importance of a mass transit master plan which includes the plans as created in
community development districts. On Monday, May 18 @ 9 am in the Hilo Council Chambers, there will be a
special meeting to review the OP /CIP requests and it would be a good time to present testimony toward
support of the MT plan.
The next committee meeting will be Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 3:30 pm.
