Public Input Sought on Proposed Harbor
Improvements at Mahukona Beach Park
The County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation announces a public hearing
to gather community input regarding proposed small boat harbor improvements at
Mahukona Beach Park in North Kohala.
Date: Thursday, June 18
Time: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Location: Kamehameha Park Intergenerational Center, Kapa`au
Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will present an overview of the
North Kohala Navigation Improvements Study and its different options for constructing a
new boat ramp and breakwater at Mahukona Beach Park. Costs, benefits and impacts
of each alternative will be discussed.
Park users, swimmers, boaters, community members and others will be invited to offer
feedback on the various options. The Department of Parks and Recreation will then
study the public feedback to determine whether to move forward with the proposed
federally funded harbor improvements.
Persons who need special accommodation to attend the hearing should call 961-8311
no later than Wednesday, June 10.
