Van Bergen <br />Deputy Director <br />Hawaii County Swimming Pools Closing July 3-4 <br />Hawaii County's nine swimming pools will be closed Friday, July 3, and <br />Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. <br />Hilo's Charles "Sparky" Kawamoto Swim Stadium, Pahoa Community <br />Aquatic Center, Kona Community Aquatic Center and the other pools will <br />return to normal operating hours on Sunday, July 5. <br />To minimize impacts to pool patrons, the Department of Parks and <br />Recreation will utilize the closure period to remove algae growth, which <br />increases during the hot summer months, and prepare the municipal <br />swimming pools for the busy summer swim season. Staff will post signs at <br />each pool informing patrons of the temporary scheduling change. <br />Swimmers with questions are asked to call a pool directly for more <br />information.
