HomeMy WebLinkAboutAnonymous11.pdfName of agency/organization: Contact person/phone/email: Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. 1. In your experience, how prevalent is the issue of squatting and adverse possession? Families loving in foreclosed home or homes that go into foreclosure while they are tenants is common but I know of no one who has adversely possesed a home 2. In what communities and districts do squatting and adverse possession appear most prominent? All the poorer areas of the island where more homes have been forclosed 3. When you receive notice or a complaint about these situations, what is your normal course of action? I do not mind, big island is a very hard place to make a living, paying rent and supporting a family is hard. It's such a shame to see a house left empty when people are homeless, or struggling... It's sad that somebody lost the title to a house am was unable to pay but most homes going into foreclosure out 2nd homes that loan were taken out upon and the people no longer wish to pay, or can't afford, there loss can be someone else's oppurtunity to have a home and save some money so they can buy their own home. There is always gonna be people who abide the system but that is what certain people do, but for the most part I think homes should be lived in. 4. What kinds of complications have arisen in the past that have prevented a successful resolution of the situation? I am not sure, I really don't see the harm and I wish people would not bother so much about others living situation, if people are being irritating neighbor that's a seperate problem 5. For those situations that have been successfully resolved, please describe what happened. 6. What happens when you contact or try to contact the owner of record? 7. What solutions would you recommend? 8. Are there any other comments you would like to make? I believe Big Island is filled with some of the most wonderful people in the world. They love Hawaii, they are Hawaii, Hawaiians, in order for Hawaii to be Hawaii it needs these kinda of people to be so special. Plenty people with money come and want to own a 2nd home, or take advatage of our poor economy and but multiple homes with intentions to rent them out for profit. They lose interest, finance problems or other various events and give these homes up. Fully finished homes sitting empty crawling with Rats and yard over growing. Our forest are dwindling wood is getting more and more expensive and we are letting waste in these empty homes. All the while the wonderful people who make Hawaii, who work everyday and only can afford to pay bills, and clothe their children have no dollar extra to save. They may never own a home in their entire lives; it doesn't seem fair. 20 years is a long time stay in a home and if you stay there 20 years an care for it, nobody bothers why can you not own it? Most cases families got a break for a while and were able to save some money each month and divert back towards their families and communtiy as opposed to sending it out of state to John Smith the homeowner from Arkansas... It's sad that we live in such a beautiful place filled with aloha and people are all poor, homeless, struggling now we are gonna find another way to stop people from surviving? We need to be spending the money coming up with more ways to HELP people who need it. Thank Illagan for asking for public concern am understanding how many families in Puna are struggling
