Contact person/phone/email: Jamie Simon,
Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions.
1. In your experience, how prevalent is the issue of squatting and adverse possession?
Not hugely prevalent. In our area of HPP,between Kaloli and Paradise, and from the
highway to the ocean, I know of three and suspect four more.
2. In what communities and districts do squatting and adverse possession appear most
prominent?
I really only notice it in HPP, simply because I usually know when Aaron home has been
vacated.
3. When you receive notice or a complaint about these situations, what is your normal
course of action?
Usually, nothing. I called the police once, several years ago, when a group of squatters
was having a big, wild, noisy party and people started fighting.
If they're not causing trouble, it makes sense to me to leave them alone. For the most part,
they take better care of the property than the banks ever do.
4. What kinds of complications have arisen in the past that have prevented a successful
resolution of the situation?
1. The police either show up when no one is there or not at all.
2. People complain way too much about things that are none of their business.
5. For those situations that have been successfully resolved, please describe what happened.
I don't know of any that have been resolved.
6. What happens when you contact or try to contact the owner of record?
I haven't tried. If they can't keep track of their own property and haven't asked someone to
do it for them, it's their own problem.
7. What solutions would you recommend?
8. Are there any other comments you would like to make?
