HomeMy WebLinkAboutAnonymous17.pdfName of agency/organization: Contact person/phone/email: Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. 1. In your experience, how prevalent is the issue of squatting and adverse possession? Squatters just want a place to call home for it being temporary or in the long run permanent. 2. In what communities and districts do squatting and adverse possession appear most prominent? I mostly see and hear of squatters in the Puna District. 3. When you receive notice or a complaint about these situations, what is your normal course of action? I dont take mind to it unless they really abuse the situation. Some homes or properties are so well taken cared of that you dont know that the home is occupied by squatters. 4. What kinds of complications have arisen in the past that have prevented a successful resolution of the situation? A lot of the homes are bank owned there is no resolution. When a property is trying to be sold it cant because the potential buyers no longer are interested knowing that someone else lived there illegally or scared that the squatters will harm them if they do choose to purchase. 5. For those situations that have been successfully resolved, please describe what happened. There are no situations that i know have that have been successfully resolved. 6. What happens when you contact or try to contact the owner of record? They are all mostly bank owned. 7. What solutions would you recommend? I recommend that the bank owned properties work with The County on housing section 8 participants to rent to own the homes once the owed amout to the bank is paid in full. This would eliminate squatters and have other potential section 8 participants. 8. Are there any other comments you would like to make? People in the area of vacant homes or properties need to be informed of the situation. We live in Hawaii where everyone takes care of everyone and their property so why is hard for the people in those areas to be concerned?
