Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions.
1. In your experience, how prevalent is the issue of squatting and adverse possession?
I know it's an issue in places where vacant lots and homelessness are abundant.
2. In what communities and districts do squatting and adverse possession appear most
prominent?
Where there are high homelessness, there be high squatters. My observations lead me to
think it happens in areas such as Keaukaha, Lanakila,
and Puna.
3. When you receive notice or a complaint about these situations, what is your normal
course of action?
If they are hanging out or sleeping at our building, we either make contact with them
directly to warn them and if it occurs again we call the police.
4. What kinds of complications have arisen in the past that have prevented a successful
resolution of the situation?
None.
5. For those situations that have been successfully resolved, please describe what happened.
One warning works but it's my guess they go someplace else.
6. What happens when you contact or try to contact the owner of record?
NA
7. What solutions would you recommend?
Solve the homelessness and drug issue. But the magic bullet is education--a good
education leads to a good job, which allows the means for a home and other recources.
8. Are there any other comments you would like to make?
None
