MEETING NOTES
Planning Consultant and Waste Water Study: After a half hour discussion we are still unclear on our
direction in addressing this issue. Actions to be taken: Patti to write letter to Duane Kanuha regarding
the sentence from our meeting from the Mayor that came from Director Kanuha, "It was pointed out
that the planning study area has been impacted by lava inundation which makes certain circulation
alternatives unfeasible so o re- assessment of the study area and objectives is necessary ". The letter will
come from the A.C. on behalf of the PRTCPSC. The letter will ask what is our next step in initiating such
a study. Patti and Oshi will consult with Bobby -Jean Leithead -Todd regarding a waste water treatment
study for Pahoa.
Design Guidelines Review Committee: Work that we can do without a consultant is to complete the
work on the formation of a review committee for the Pahoa Design Guidelines. At a post- meeting
meeting it was decided that Mark and Madie will convene a meeting of Mainstreet Pahoa, Kokua Pahoa
and Malama O Puna to form an agreement on the mandate for the Review Committee. Patti will work
on the mandate language.
Suggestions were made on possible members of the Review Committee:
Jon McElveney
Larry Brown
Lon Brown
Mariano Delgado
Mark Hinshaw
Steve Sparks
Alan Lakritz
It is the responsibility of the three Pahoa organizations to appoint the Review Committee members.
Luquin's Parking Lot & Signage /Restrooms: Elmer agreed to speak with Sal regarding the parking lot
and both Danny and Greggor regarding the signs and restroom.
Report from Elmer: Elmer will check with Hamana to see if the previous assessment is still valid. Sal
agreed to secure an appraisal on his own. It is hoped that there is an acceptable compromise in the
middle. Elmer will keep us posted.
Post Office Road: Jon reports that the old section of Post Office Road has been called a "Road in
Limbo ". Jon will check with Greggor about proposing legislation to get it out of "Limbo ".
Lava Viewing: Mark and Madie report that the re- opening of Apa'a and Cemetary Road is essential part,
and agree that a viewing area is much desired by Pahoa businesses, HVNP and tourists. They will
continue to pursue.
