Hilo's Carvalho Park, Pi`ihonua Gym Closing September
28 for Repairs; Expected to Reopen in December
The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation announces it will
close Hilo's Gilbert Carvalho Park and adjacent Pi`ihonua Gymnasium
starting Monday, September 28, to perform needed repairs. Both closures
are expected to remain in effect until December.
Repairs will include replacing the gym, pavilion and restroom roofs,
repainting the buildings, installing new light poles for the ball field, and
performing other electrical work.
To protect park users from construction hazards, the entire park, including
the ball field, parking lots, keiki playground, pavilion and gymnasium, will be
kept closed until the repair work is completed.
The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks park users and the
general public for their patience and understanding while it works to
improve Hawaii County park facilities to meet the recreational needs of a
growing island community.
