Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens Closing
Early November 12 for Little Fire Ant Control
The Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens will close at 2 p.m. on
Thursday, November 12, so the facility may be treated for little fire ants.
Normal operating hours will resume on Friday, November 13, when the zoo
will open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m.
The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks zoo patrons and the
general public for their patience and understanding while it works to control
invasive little fire ants.
Located off of Stainback Highway about five miles south of Hilo, Pana`ewa
Rainforest Zoo the only natural tropical rainforest zoo in the United States.
More than 80 animal species and 100 palm varieties can be found at the
zoo. Admission is free.
