Subject: Regarding "Public comment sought on The General Plan" for our Big Island
On the front page of this morning's newspaper, an article
seeking public comment is placed next to another
announcing "Timber harvest in the works." How
appropriate. I have been crying every time I see all the
murdered eucalyptus trees piled up at the harbor ...
waiting for the monstrous cargo ship (with 5 cranes) to
float them across the ocean (to be ground up for toilet
paper?). During the past 3 years probably a million trees
have been murdered & transported across island by huge
heavy logging trucks chewing up our highways.
American corporations are so efficient at DESTRUCTION
& so impotent at nurturing Nature ~ the source of our
physical health & happiness. Eucalyptus vapor is perfect
for remedying our respiratory systems' reactions to vog ...
& of course all tree leaves provide immense quantities of
life-giving oxygen. The trees are automatically
disseminating these virtues into our island air ... until the
corporations slaughter them.
Clear-cutting forests bares the earth, causing fertile topsoil
to wash away into streams & ocean ~ polluting them.
And looting large quantities of plant life without
composting it & putting it back into the ground whence it
grew depletes the earth ... until hardly anything grows
without disease after such repeated raping of Mother
Nature.
Unfortunately totally UNqualified corporate personnel are
in charge of these operations ~ money & profit are their
only major concerns. Life, health, intelligence, & halcyon
happiness are renounced.
I therefore suggest that the entire deforesting operation be
supervised under the authority of a bonafide organic-
biodynamic-permaculture expert. We have plenty of them
on this island (e.g., Jon Biloon or Dash Kuhr).
