Subject: Resident Input: Hawai'i County General Plan
Thank you for the opportunity to provide input from Hawaii County residents as mentioned in todays,
North Hawai'i News, page 9. I reviewed your plan and I am impressed with the format of data driving
the discussion. I would like to focus on a low cost/high impact project in the Recreational area since it
would be very achievable with high usage and visibility.
Top priority.
Multi-use paths: The creation of multi-use walking/bike paths to existing recreational areas as
mentioned in section 12.3.m would have high impact with the consistent pleasant weather on the West
Side. The positives are: visiting Historic Sites, nature viewing, visiting Scenic Lookouts, picnicking/BBQ,
walking, hiking, and biking. Multi-use walking/cycling paths have three other benefits. They promote
health. They are also less expensive to implement and maintain than other recreational facilities. And
they are green. Depending on the placement, individuals could walk or bike as a form of transportation.
Thank you for this opportunity for input.
