HEARING TRANSCRIPT
JANUARY 7, 2016
MILO STREET VENTURES INC.
A regularly advertised hearing on the application of
(SLU 15-045/REZ 15-197)
was called to order at 9:12 a.m. in the County of Hawai‘i Aupuni
Center Conference Room, 101 Pauahi Street, Hilo, Hawai‘i with Vice Chairman Gregory Henkel
presiding.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Gregory Henkel, Donald Ikeda, Myles Miyasato, and Raylene
Moses.
ABSENT & EXCUSED: Donn Dela Cruz and Charles Heaukulani.
ALSO PRESENT: Duane Kanuha (Planning Director), Danny Patel (Deputy Corporation
Counsel for the Windward Planning Commission), Daryn Arai (Planning Program Manager),
Jeff Darrow (Staff Planner), Christian Kay (Staff Planner), and Sarah Hata-Finley (Commission
Secretary).
And approximately 7 people from the public in attendance.
APPLICANT: MILO STREET VENTURES INC. (SLU-15-045/REZ-15-197)
Applications for a State Land Use Boundary Amendment from the Agricultural to the Urban
District and a Change of Zone from an Agricultural-20 acres (A-20a) to a Limited Industrial-
20,000 square feet (ML-20) zoning district for approximately 2.082 acres of land. The property
is located at 16-685 Milo Street, which is on the south side of Milo Street approximately 400 feet
east of the Kea‘au Bypass Road and Milo Street intersection, Keaʻau, Puna, Hawaiʻi, TMK: 1-6-
152:020.
HENKEL: Number two on the agenda is the Milo Street Ventures Incorporated. It has been
continued but I’m going to ask for any public testimony. Standby—we’ll be in recess for a few
minutes.
Chairman Pro Tem Henkel called a recess at 9:12 a.m., and the meeting was reconvened at 9:16
a.m. \[Secretary’s Note: Mr. Arai was helping a member of the public and checking with that
person if he wished to testify on the application.\]
HENKEL: Okay, we’re back in session. Is there anybody that wishes to testify on the Milo
Street Ventures SLU 15-045/REZ 15-197?
PATEL: So, if there’s no one here to testify, I believe the applicant’s representative is here, but I
guess—our understanding is it’s going to be continued?

PATEL: So, unless the applicant has anything to address at this point, I think we can move on.
HENKEL: Okay, we’ll move on to unfinished business but it’s not scheduled till 9:30, so we’ll
remain in recess until 9:30, or we’ll enter recess until 9:30, and I’ll call the meeting back to
order.
The discussion ended at 9:17 a.m.
