reciprocity (e.g. bartering) economy as a sustainable complement to

Objective 13: Promote appropriate rural tourism that welcomes guests for
an alternative visitor experience. Promote Hawai'i's host culture and
Hamakua's heritage, including historic roads and plantation towns, and
festivals that celebrate our rich multi -cultural music, art, and agriculture.

CHALLENGES
Future management of Valley in question.
A change from agriculture zoning to a stricter zone, such as
conservation zoning, would restrict agricultural uses (e.g., taro).
Community conflicted on visitor industry presence in Valley.
Tourism related impacts (e.g., trespassing, desecration of sacred
sites, and environmental/agricultural impacts).
