HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-10-26 WPR Group NotesMINUTES FROM PARKS,WATER & ROADS SUB-COMMITTEE MEETING OF OCTOBER 26,2016 ATTENDANCE: Carter Collins, Sarah Pule-Fujii, Toni Withington, John Winter, Andi Longpre (minutes by Andi) INTEGRATED AGRICULTURAL WATER SYSTEM: Members of our sub-committee have been in contact with board members of the Kohala Ditch Foundation and The Community Co-operative Association to arrange a community meeting of local food producers and other interested parties. The purpose of such a meeting is to assess how to move forward in developing a non-profit entity to administer this system. (Please see the minutes of the Sept 28th meeting for a fuller description of the proposed system). HISAOKA GYM FLOOR: Carter Collins reported that the leak in the roof has been repaired and that the damage to the new floor has been repaired. KOHALA SWIMMING POOL: The work on the new roof has been completed and the pool is open. There is a list posted regarding the days in November when the pool will be closed due to lack of a life guard, voting date and holidays. KEOKEA PARK: The request for tree trimming has started as of this date. However, there continues to be a serious problem with fire ants. Although this problem has been reported to Parks & Recreation Dept. they continue to focus their attention on parks in the Hilo area. There continues to be a problem with repairing and/or possibly installing new lights at the Park and the lack of a security light. Members of the Friends of the Park have been in communication with Mr. Pat Daly (he oversees the entire maintenance division for the parks) to address these and other park issues. COAST GUARD ROAD: Mr. Bobby Command has communicated that repair work on significant road problems will start in the near future. POLOLU OUTLOOK/ PARKING: Toni Withington reported that the following CDP sub-committees are interested in meeting with local stakeholders regarding possible uses of the Outlook and any improvements/changes to the parking problems. Those sub-committees are: Access, Growth Management, View Plains and Parks, Water and Roads. NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, November 23, 2016 @ 5 p.m. @ the Senior Ctr., Kapa’au
