`);'i16 !ICP ')r
Debra Toledo-Ebreo
P.O. Box 51
Honokaa, HI 96727
December 17,2016
Dear Hamakua CDP Steering Committee Members—Chair Kurokawa, Vice Chair
Gomes, Mr. Enright, Mr. Moniz, Mr. Neff, Mr. Carvalho, Mrs. Mendoza, and Mrs. Pahio,
I am submitting testimony in support of the Hamakua CDP. I encourage you to
vote in favor of the CDP so we can move it along to the next phases. I have been
following the progress of the CDP for years and am happy that you are finally at the point
of a vote by the Steering Committee.
Years ago I took part in a Talk Story session in Hamakua and helped distribute
surveys to those who couldn't come to one of the Talk Story sessions. I did this because I
felt it was essential that the voices of our residents be heard and included in the planning.
My husband worked for the Hamakua Sugar Co. until its closure in 1994. Since
the plantation closed, he has been working at one of the resorts on the Kohala Coast. I am
employed in the health care and education fields. Our son graduated from Honokaa High
School and now works in the construction industry. All three of us provided feedback to
the two questions that were asked of us regarding our values and our vision for Hamakua.
Please help us preserve what is left of the Hamakua that we know and remember.
We shared our thoughts with you in hopes that you would help us protect what is left of
those things that make this place so special to us. Please vote to approve the Hamakua
CDP revised draft.
Sincerely,
aak)
Debra Toledo-Ebreo
109023
