HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-12-20 Police Commission Regular MinutesHAWAII POLICE COMMISSION REGULAR SESSION MINUTES DECEMBER 20, 2016 DEPARTMENT OF LIQUOR CONTROL, HILO, HAWAII CALL TO ORDER Vice Chair Morioka called the meeting to order at 10:02 a.m. ROLL CALL Present: Keith Morioka, Vice Chair Arthur Buckman, Commissioner Carl Carlson, Commissioner Peter Hendricks, Commissioner Jak Hu, Commissioner Paul Paiva, Commissioner Absent: Guy Schutte, Chair Wayne De Luz, Commissioner Robert Gomes, Sr., Commissioner A quorum was present. Also present: Paul Ferreira, Deputy Police Chief Mitchell Kanehailua, Assistant Chief Kenneth Bugado, Captain Malia Ho, Deputy Corporation Counsel Josie Pelayo, Secretary APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner Hendricks motioned to approve the agenda. Commissioner Paiva seconded, and it carried unanimously. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS Assistant Chief Mitchell Kanehailua came before the commission in support of the appointment of Captain Kenneth Bugado as Deputy Police Chief. He stated that he has known Kenneth since they were kids in Laupahoehoe. He is solid, ethical, and a good role model for the Police Department. He has excelled in every position he has held. He does his job effectively. He conveys his extreme pleasure to have Kenneth Bugado as the Deputy Chief. NEW BUSINESS Deputy Police Chief Paul Ferreira has notified the Police Commission that he would like to appoint Captain Kenneth Bugado, Jr., as Deputy Police Chief when he takes office as the new Chief of Police on December 31, 2016. He requests that the commission confirm this appointment. Commissioner Paiva motioned to accept the appointment of Kenneth Bugado as Deputy Police Chief. Commissioner Hu seconded, and it carried unanimously. Hawai'i Police Commission Regular Session Minutes December 20, 2016 Page 2 ANNOUNCEMENTS Vice Chair Morioka announced that The Police Commission's next monthly meeting will be on January 20, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. in the West Hawai'i Civic Center, Building G Conference Room, 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway, Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i. Done ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Carlson motioned to adjourned. Commissioner Hendricks seconded, and it carried unanimously.
