Representative Richard Creagan
Agriculture Committee
Hawai'i State Capitol
Honolulu, HI 96813
Dear Chair Creagan and Members:
RE: HB 1472
Thank you for this opportunity to testify in strong support of HB 1472.
The way in which the ohia forests of the Big Island have been decimated cannot
be overstated, and is difficult to comprehend if not seen in person. It seems that one
day there is a forest that one assumes will exist for millennia, and the next day there are
barren trees comparable to a severe northern winter, but you must accept that they will
not regenerate in the spring, or ever again.
The modest funding requested in HB 1472 would be a small price to pay to save
what remains of this vital natural resource.
Respectfully submitted,
arty Kim
