PROPOSED ELDER LOW INCOME HOUSING PROJECT
I have met with the principals, and discussed the proposed plans for construction
of Hale Kupuna elder low-income housing complex, to be constructed at 1198 Kino'ole
Street, in Hilo. This is a 140' x 237' site, of .7617 acres, centrally located in Hilo, and in
close proximity to the Senior Center. The proposed new development will include 36
low-income elder units, with low-income reservation for 61 years, and exceptional
amenities for the residents.
This is an experienced development team, including Hank Correa and Chuck
Barker, and they have demonstrable experience with the County of Hawaii Planning
Department, Public Works and Housing Departments, and the established capacity to
construct, complete and efficiently operate this property to best serve low-income
housing needs for elder residents of Hilo.
Please accept this letter of support of the Hale Kupuna Low Income Housing
Project, and my earnest and strong recommendation that it be approved by the HHFDC
under the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program.
