SUBJECT: County of Hawai'i's request for an Executive Order of Kaiwiki
Park, TMK(2-6-010:016)
Dear Chairperson Case:
The purpose of this letter is to request an Executive Order of Kaiwiki Park, TMK(2-6-010:016)
from the State of Hawai'i to the County of Hawai'i for public use as a park. Currently, the
County of Hawai'i Department of Parks and Recreation maintains Kaiwiki Park which includes
an open field, restrooms and a pavilion.
As background, Executive Order 486 dated May 12, 1931, set aside this property to Kaiwiki
School and for park purposes. Thereafter, Executive Order 2225 cancelled Executive Order 486
on October 16, 1965. Attached are copies of Executive Order 486 and Executive Order 2225.
The County of Hawai'i respectfully requests that this matter be considered by the Board of Land
and Natural Resources at your earliest convenience.

CANCELLATION OF GOVERNOR'S EXECUTIVE ORDER
NO. 486, DATED MAY 12, 1931
WHEREAS, by Governor's .ecutive Order No. 486,
dated May 12, 1931, certain lands situate at Kaiwiki, South
Hilo, County and Island of Hawaii, State of Hawaii, were
set aside for the Kaiwiki School, and for park purposes also,
under the control and mafiigiiiient of the Department of Public
Instruction; and
WHEREAS, said lands are no longer required for the
abovementioned purposes;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN A. BURNS, Governor of the
State of Hawaii, by virtue of the authority in me vested by
Section 103A-11, Revised Laws of Hawaii 1955, as amended, and
every other authority me hereunto enahling, do hereby order
that Executive Order No. 486, dated May 12, 1931, be, and the
same is hereby cancelled and declared of no further force and
effect.
Subject to disapproval by the legislature by
two-thirds vote of either the Senate or the Nouse of
Representatives or by majority vote of both, in any
regular or special session next following the date
of this Executive Order.

by virtue of the authority vested in me by paragraph q of Section 73 of the Hawaiian
Organic Act, and every other authority me hereunto enabling, do hereby order that the
following described public land be and the same is hereby set aside for public purposes,
to-wit, for site for the Kaiwiki School and for park purposes
also, to be under the control and management of the Depart-
ment of Public Instruction, subject to the right of the
Board of aipervisora of the County of Hawaii, as provided
for in Section 1919 Revised Laws of Hawaii 1925, to create
and maintain a portion thereof for a public park, which
may be used as playground for the Kaiwiki School.
Kaiwiki School and Park
situate in Kaiwiki Homestead Tract,
South Hilo, Hawaii.
Being a portion of Lot 20, Kaiwiki Homesteads
covered by Grant 3916 to 11. F. Brashe, and
being also the land conveyed to the Territory
by the Hilo Sugar Company. by deed dated
August 7, 1930, recorded in the Bureau of
Conveyanoes at Honolulu on page 436,Book 1078.
BEGINNING at the northwest corner of this lot,
the Northeast corner of Catholic Church Lot, and on the
south side of Homestead Road (40-feet wide), the coordi-
nates of said point of beginning referred to Government
Survey Triangulation Ltat ion "Kaiwiki New" being 533.26
feet south and 3005.75 feet west, as shown on Kaiwiki
Homestead Map No. 9, and running by true azimuths :
1. 2490 47' 489.0 feet along south side of
Homestead Road
(40-feet wide);
2. 3600 00' 559.13 feet along remainder of
Grant 3916 to M. F.
Brash.;
3. 90° 00' 458.87 feet along same;
4. 1800 00' 390.16 feet along Lot "A" of
Land Court Applica-
tion No. 637, Hilo
Sugar Company. Appli-
cant, and along Catho-
