Dear Ms. Poindexter and Council Members,
The Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture, along with a 14-member contingent,will be
th
soon be visiting Hawai'i Island to celebratethe 59anniversary of the East Hawai'i Hiroshima
Kenjin Kai.
As part of the festivities, the County of Hawai'i has scheduled a Commemorative Tree
Planting Ceremony on May 9, 2017, at the Liliuokalani Gardens in Hilo. The Department of
Parks & Recreation and my office are handling arrangements for this event. A tent and
chairs willindicate the site for the ceremony. A Black Pine will be planted andshovels will be
on hand. This tree planting ceremony will perpetuate and foster our Hiroshima Sister State
relationship.
We are asking that Council Chair Poindexter participate in the tree planting ceremony
along with Thomas Goya, President of the East Hawai'i Kenjin Kai.
All Council members are invited to attend and are asked to beat the site by 8:30 a.m.
to receive the guests as they arrive at 9:00 a.m.
