RE:Request for Creation of a Marine Life Conservation District in Keaukaha,
Hawaii at Kealoha Beach Park and Carlsmith Beach Park
Thank you very much for your correspondence regarding the Kealoha Beach Park
and Carlsmith Beach Park to be designated as a protected Marine Life
Conservation District (MLCD).
Please know that total authority of MLCD falls within the State government. I will
take this up with Parks and Recreation personnel and the Corporation Counsel to
see if this can be pursued or should be pursued by the County government.
I was very heavily involved in the designation of the Vacationland tidal pool area
for MLCD. It took several years to accomplish that. I did learn after failure of the
first attempt that communication with the public that is affected is a must before
this can proceed.
