Mr. Jay Kimura
Executive Director
Hawai'i County Economic Opportunity Council
To Whom It May Concern:
This letter is to express my support for the Hawai'i County Economic Opportunity
Council's application for an Aloha `Aina (Natural Resources) grant.
The Hawai'i County Economic Opportunity Council (HCEOC) is proposing to begin
development of a botanical garden on a site leased by HCEOC from the County of
Hawai'i adjacent to Rainbow Falls in Hilo.
The site, currently overgrown with non-native and invasive plant species, would be
planted with indigenous and endemic plants such as kukui, ti, laua`e and uki`uki. The
goal is to create a garden of native, rare and endangered species to educate residents
and visitors about Hawai'i's fragile and unique natural environment.
In conclusion, I urge you to seriously consider their funding request. Please contact me
should you have any questions about my support for this important project.
County of Hawai`i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer.
