CALL TO ORDER
Chair Farrah -Marie Gomes called meeting to order at 1:21 pm. Quorum has
been met.

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES (June 28, 2017)
Committee expressed thanks to Lee -Ann for sending June 28, 2017 minutes.
Jewel motioned to approve and Brooke seconded the June 28, 2017 minutes.
Minutes approved as submitted.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT
A. Travel expenses and one meal are so far the only expenses in the budget.
B. Discussion over a projection for Essay contest monies. Suggestion of
$800 is recommended for Essay Contest.
Hawaii County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer
C. Update on $910 is pending and will be explored and shared at next
month's meeting
D. Moved by Lee -Ann and seconded by Jewel to approve June 2017
Treasurer's Report.
ACTION: Farrah will follow up with Lisa regarding $500 F.O.F. funds.
V. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC None.
VI. CORRESPONDENCE None.
VII. REPORTS
A. State CSW Liaison.
• On 12-16 of July, NACW conference in Buffalo, NY. Cyd attended
along with other CSW State and County members. 3 from State of
Hawaii including Executive Director (4 total) 2 CSW Kauai and 1
CSW from Maui.
• Focus on 2017 NACW member was to focus on best practices for
all Committees on the Status of Women. Approximately 30
attended in Buffalo, NY. Topics of focus included women's
suffrage, crisis management, first women's architect (woman from
Buffalo), healthcare specific to women's health.
• Message at NACW focused on encouraging women to be in
politics locally and in government positions to participate in the
decision-making process to enact changes at the Local, State and
National levels.
• Ms. Nguyen spoke about her personal experience of abuse and at
the motivation to draft a bill to protect rape victims. She also
spoke about the Bill of Rights for rape victims she initiated and
took to Congress.
• 2018 NACW Conference will be hosted in Los Angeles.
• Jewel and Cyd attended human trafficking conference. Homeland
Security provided materials on human trafficking to conference
attendees. Information on human rights were shared to
conference attendees.
• A suggestion was made to include local police and social workers
to participate in the human trafficking conference next year to
share more specific information and data throughout Hawaii State
and Counties.
• A suggestion was made to have newspaper articles showcase the
status of human trafficking to create awareness of what is
happening in our communities.
• Suggestion was made for CSW members to regroup and draft a
public service memo as a project under the CSW Human
Trafficking Sub -Committee (Mete, Jewel, Lee -Ann, Brooke).

• Resist, Insist, Persist and Enlist Cards were shared. Resist the
status quo on inequality and pay, Insist that we have pay equality,
Persist in the mission to carry out impactful project, Enlist women
and men to help make our communities to make Hawaii a better
place for all, especially women and girls.
• CSW will continue to explore the possibility of attending next
year's 2018 NACW conference in Los Angeles.
• Cyd gave out 100 cell phone cards.
Action Item: Mele will scan and disseminate information from the NACW.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Teen Dating Violence
• Jewel and Deb discussed ideas for projects. Jewel learned that a
lot of human trafficking falls around "Romeo Pimp" who prey on
young teens who get caught in human trafficking rings.
Jewel will continue to talk with Deb about project ideas which
align with human trafficking theme.
ACTION: The project plan will be shared at the August 2017 meeting.
B. Real Women Essay Contest
• Committee formed last month and Farrah recommended that
someone else take lead on project. Farrah will reach out
Subcommittee consisted of Farrah, Lee -Ann, Tammy. Goal is to
send information to reach schools in early September 2017.
• December 2017 is a month to be more proactive in reaching out
with schools to follow up with Kona and Kohala Schools. Early
contact with teachers will provide time for teachers to work with
students.
• Deb volunteered to engage schools in Waikoloa, Honoka'a and
Kohala to provide additional support.
• Nomination of Committee made by Jewel and seconded by Mele.
Subcommittee consists of Farrah, Tammy, Lee -Ann, and Deb for
the 2018 Real Women Contest Essay Committee.
C. Hawaii Island Women's Leadership Forum
• Teri Bump speaking event was a success. Total attendees were
26 in Kona and 32 in Hilo.
• Positive feedback on evaluation forms were shared. Farrah
continuing to explore themes on evaluation forms. Majority of
themes fell into "women in business"
• Next workshop scheduled for October 2017.
D. CSW Brochure
• Farrah will provide update by August meeting.
ACTION: Farrah will email draft of CSW brochure prior to next meeting.
E. Cell Phone Safety Cards
• Jewel distributed 50 in the July Pride parade in Hilo and 50 to
Care Hawaii.
• In 2018 Cell Phone cards will go under Teen Dating Violence.
• Hawaii State Commission will be happy to support funding for
further printing of cards and other projects since Hawaii County
CSW is the most active in the State.
• Exploration for more support over issues rather than activity of
smaller themed projects.
ACTION: Mele will recreate Cell Phone Safety Card draft for future editing and
printing.
F. Urgent Services Directory
• Directory edits were sent to Farrah for Teen Section and in the
Support Services Section.
• Suggestion was made to include a hotline of human trafficking in
the Urgent Services Directory.
• Possibly explore partnerships to support the Urgent Services
Directory.
• All Urgent Services Directories have been distributed. Prints
needed for further distribution after edits are made.
• Purchase of paper was explored to change from lime green to
pastel yellow due to costs.
• Motion made by Jewel and seconded by Brooke to change paper
of from light green to pale yellow and no more than $300.
ACTION: Farrah will incorporate Debs edits and include Human Trafficking then
sent to print on pastel yellow paper for a total county of 10, 000 copies.
G. Human Trafficking
• Brooke and Lee -Ann attending July 28`h meeting hosted by the
County of Hawaii.
• Human Trafficking Sub -committee — Brooke, Lee -Ann, Mele,
Jewel inquired to serve. Deb motioned to have Brooke, Mele,
Lee -Ann and Jewel to serve on Sub -committee for Human
Trafficking.
H. Equal Pay
• Keep on agenda for August 2017 meeting.
I. Review 2017-2018 Calendar of Events
• Keep on agenda for August 2107 meeting.

J. CSW Membership Nominations
• 3 applications on file for CSW which will be reviewed and vetted by
Mayor's office.
K. Elections
• Select nomination committee and send slate in 2 weeks to vote on
new CSW members. Lee -Ann, Mele, and Farrah expressed interest
in nominating committee. Nomination Committee members are
Lee -Ann, Mele, and Farrah.
• Brooke motioned and Jewel seconded. Mele, Farrah and Lee -Ann
to serve on Nominating Committee.
• Motion carried for Mele, Farrah and Lee -Ann to serve on
Nominating Committee for new CSW Members.
L. Approve 2017-2018 Budget
• CSW agreed to proceed with budget as is and explore at next
month's August 2017 meeting.
III. ANNOUNCEMENTS (relating to CSW)
• Hui Malama Ola Na `Oiwi contacted Mele to ask for assistance from CSW
in their "Ladies Night Out" event to be held on September 29, 2017. Event
will take place in Hilo at the Civic Auditorium.
• Mele will give small donation of $50 as personal donation but indicating in
support of the event on behalf of CSW.
• UN Women Organization "Say NO" information will be shared to
Committee by Mele.
• Suggestion to go through 2018 calendar to schedule CSW meetings.
Members are asked to bring their calendars to discuss.
• Next CSW Meeting is scheduled for August 30, 2017 at 9:30 in Honoka'a
at NHERC.
IV. ADJOURNMENT
• Meeting motioned by Lee -Ann and seconded by Mele. Meeting was
adjourned at 2:40p.m.
