HAWAII POLICE COMMISSION <br />REGULAR SESSION MINUTES <br />AUGUST 11, 2017 <br />AUPUNI CENTER CONFERENCE ROOM <br />101 PAUAHI ST., HILO, HAWAII <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Vice Chair Hendricks called the meeting to order at 9:32 a.m. <br />ROLL CALL <br />Present: Peter Hendricks, Vice Chair <br />Arthur Buckman, Commissioner <br />Carl Carlson, Commissioner <br />Wayne De Luz, Commissioner <br />Colleen Pasco, Commissioner <br />Absent: Keith Morioka, Chair <br />Jak Hu, Commissioner <br />Paul Paiva, Commissioner <br />A quorum was present. <br />Also present: Kenneth Bugado, Deputy Police Chief <br />Marshall Kanehailua, Assistant Chief <br />Mitchell Kanehailua, Assistant Chief <br />Henry Tavares, Assistant Chief <br />Burt Shimabukuro, Captain <br />Craig Masuda, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />Malia Hall, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />Josie Pelayo, Secretary <br />APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br />Commissioner Carlson motioned to approve the agenda. Commisioner De Luz <br />seconded, and it carried unanimously. <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS (None) <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />Commissioner Buckman motioned to approve the minutes of July 21, 2017, regular and <br />executive sessions. Commissioner Carlson seconded, and it carried unanimously. <br />POLICE CHIEF'S REPORT ON DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES <br />• Personnel: Assistant Chief Marshall Kanehailua reported having 7 sworn vacancies. <br />Many officers have shown interest in the FBI recruitment. A Police Officer I test will <br />be administered at the end of the month. The 85th recruit class started with 14; they <br />are now down to 5. The 86th recruit started with 17; they are now down to 14. The <br />
