Dear Mayor Mitsuji:
Thank you very much for your gracious letter of September 19, 2017.
Your meticulous reporting on the donation that Hawai'i County made after the 2013
mudslide disaster is much appreciated. The stone benches that you plan to place in the
Disaster Memorial Park in 2021 are a most fitting tribute to the victims of the tragic
event, and a testament to the valiant efforts that Oshima has made to recover.
Our long-standing Sister City relationship is very important to us in Hawai'i County, and
we stand in solidarity with you as you continue to heal your community.
Please be assured that we in Hawai'i County greatly value our mutual ties that will
surely endure and strengthen over the years, and you can be sure that you, our Sister
City friends, will always be welcome here.
We will communicate separately via email to arrange for you to come visit sometime in
November.
We look forward to the next opportunity to see you and all of our good friends from
Oshima.
