Dear SHPO and Members of the Hawai`i Historic Places Review Board:
SUBJECT: Nomination of the Awong Brothers Store to the Hawaii Register of Historic Places
45-3600 Mamane Street, Honoka`a, Hawaii 96727
TMK: (3) 4-5-016:017 Honoka`a, Hamakua, Hawaii
I am pleased to offer support for the inclusion of the Awong Brothers Store on the Hawaii Register of
Historic Places. After review of the nomination materials, we are of the opinion that the building meets
criteria A and C of §13-198-8, Hawaii Administrative Rules, and criteria A and C of §60.4, Code of
Federal Regulations, for inclusion on the Hawaii Register and nomination to the National Register of
Historic Places.
The Hawai`i County Cultural Resources Commission (CRC) considered the draft nomination materials at
their advertised public meeting on October 11, 2017, and unanimously voted to support its inclusion on
the Registers.
Listing of the Awong Brothers Store to the Hawaii Register of Historic Places will help to preserve a
portion of the heritage that makes our County special.
