Herbert Shipman Park Playground Closed for
Resurfacing and Repairs
The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation announces the temporary
closure of Herbert Shipman Park playground equipment area only, effective
November 1, 2017 through March 1, 2018, for resurfacing and repairs.
The project consists of removing rubber playground surfacing and replacing it with turf,
along with other repairs to the playground equipment area only. The playground
equipment area will be blocked off with safety barricades during this construction period.
The rest of the park, including the pavilion, soccer fields, and outdoor courts will remain
opened during this time.
The Department thanks park users and the general public for their understanding and
patience while work progresses to improve Herbert Shipman Park.
