North Kohala Community Access Group

❖ Pololu Lookout
➢ State Na Ala Hele met with Surety to discuss mauka 2 acres for parking.
➢ Department of Transportation personnel (Sterling Chow — Big Island Deputy) is working with
Na Ala Hele on easement of the roadway width.
■ He will also meet with Surety on this issue.
➢ This Pololu project will be on the Na Ala Hele Advisory council meeting agenda in October.
➢ DOFAW (department of forestry and wildlife) is surveying the trail and will give
recommendations to Na Ala Hele.
❖ Akoakoa Point
➢ NSTR (nothing significant to report).
❖ Niulii
➢ Kohala Center is still investigating allegations of the lease covering the old railroad round table
with soil.
■ It may have legal ramifications.
➢ Kohala Center will meet with area residents to discuss any concerns of their property & talk
about ideas for projects.
❖ Hapu'u — Kapanaia
➢ A neighborhood watch group was formed for the Kapanaia area.
➢ Misty Kai may be fencing their property which includes part of Kapalama Heiau.
■ They will consult with Ralph on how to fence around Kapalama Heiau.

➢ The orginal Issacs house (ocean front house) is going to auction.
➢ The status of the trail restoration needs to be communicated to the sellers and buyer.

• ➢ Malama Kohala Kahakai in conjunction with Kohala Lihikai has submitted an application for
management funds from PONC.
■ Kaiholena and Pao'o will be managed together.
■ Funding can be for wild fire mitigation & education.

➢ Who is the -planning department representative for public access?
➢ Honoipu Landing (old Coast Guard station) is on the market from landowner Parker Ranch.
■ It is 17.55 acres and asking $995,000 as is.
■ It includes the road from just below Lum's roadway down to the 1St two duplexes & the
landing parking lot.
■ This area is on HILT'S Iconic Land list
➢ EWM has listed Honomakau lands (490 acres) which includes 11 parcels, of which 3 parcels
are ocean front.
■ EWM wants to sell them all together.
