PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO RULES AND REGULATONS OF THE FIRE
COMMISSION
The proposed amendments include, but are not limited to the following:
• Revises definition of "Employee".
• Refines Commission's powers and duties in conformance with County Charter.
• Removes "mandatory" listing from non-functional committees within the Commission
• Changes regular meeting time from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. the second Wednesday
of every month.
• Revises attendance guidelines for Commissioners.
• Amends processing of complaint procedures and classification of complaints.
• Adds to Commission's selection criteria of the Fire Chief.
• Amends location(s) where public can obtain information about the Commission.
• Repeals Rules 20 through 22 pertaining to contested case proceedings and counsel
for firefighters in conformance with Commission's powers and duties as outlined in
the Charter.

All persons desiring to express their views, arguments, or submit data on the above
matter may do so by submitting statements in writing to the Fire Commission at least
two days before this public hearing. All written comments should be mailed or delivered
to the Commission at 101 Pauahi St., Ste. 9, Hilo, Hawaii 96720, or e-mailed to
josie.pelayo@hawaiicounty.gov at least two days before the hearing. Anyone may
appear in person to submit their data, views, or arguments orally before the
Commission at this hearing. The Commission may make a decision to adopt these
amended rules during its monthly meeting immediately following this public hearing.
A copy of the proposed amended rules may be obtained at the office of the Fire
Commission, located at the above address, Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. Interested persons may call (808) 932-2950 for a mailed or e-mailed copy.

The Fire Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting immediately following this
public hearing.
