We would like to reaffirm and underscore our very highest priority support for rebuilding the Mahukona Beach Park pavilion and restrooms. This has topped every North Kohala CIP request list since at least 2013. Kapa`a Beach Park also needs upgrading. Mahukona and Kapa`a beach park facilities are used extensively by tourists and residents alike, but they are in very poor shape. Among the proposed CIPS for 2017-18, the North Kohala CDP Action Committee would like to recommend the following projects in the order of their priority to the Kohala Action Committee and community. All have been on a county Budget Priority List in the last 2 years: L Mahukona Beach Park Renovation. This is the highest Kohala priority. This is a much -used park and the facilities are very run-down. 2. Green Waste Facility at the North Kohala Transfer Station. Greenwaste constitutes over half of what is presently put in the single chute and transported to the West Hawaii Landfill. Kohala needs mulch for agriculture. 3. Kapa`a Beach Solar Power Electricity. 4. Pratt Road Improvements. Pratt Road is the only possible emergency bypass alternative to Akoni Pule Highway, the only road through North Kohala (which has been blocked four times in the past 3 years). 5. King Kamehameha Park Gym Roof Repair & Other Improvements. Please prioritize funding for these much-needed infrastructure and facility improvements. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Please feel free to call me if you have further questions.
