Hawaii County Cultural Resources Commission • Established in 2008 by ORD 08-42, seated in 2013 • Certified Local Government in 2014, Federal process • Composed of 9 members with knowledge and interest in local culture/history • Assist Fed, State & County with historic preservation responsibilities • Advisory body to Planning Director and County • 100+ items reviewed since 2013 General Plan & I<CDP Goals/Policies • General Plan — broad Goals, Policies & Standards applicable to County • I<CPD — Goals, Objectives, Policies & Actions relating to Cultural Resources to implement the Goals of the GP K • CR -1: Community -Based Program Important to OSN • Policy CR 1.1: Kona Cultural Resources Committee (KCRC) Overlap with CRC • CR -2: Funding of Kona Historic Resources Programs • Policy CR 2.1: Certified Local Government • Policy CR 2.2: Regulatory System • CR -3: Preservation of Kanaka Maoli Culture & Island Values • Policy CR 3.1: Honor Kanaka Maoli culture and heritage • Policy CR 3.2: Increase number of educators teaching culture and history • Policy CR 3.3: Enable Kanaka Maoli and others to pursue traditional lifestyles/practices • Policy CR 3.4: Provide support for subsistence -based business/economy • Policy CR 3.5: Ahupua`a Resource and Management KCRC, the CRC, and the OSN • Some KCRC Duties • Review/supplement SIHP (sites/trails/bldgs.)
