Dear Ms. Wong -Wilson,
RE: 2018 Ka `Aha Hula `O Halauaola
Thank you for providing me with a copy of Lalakea Foundation's letter to Hawaii
County Council Members dated November 16, 2017, requesting their financial support
for the upcoming 2018 Ka `Aha Hula `O Halauaola.
I understand that Council Member Maile David plans to provide funding, and
pending approval of the full Council, the funds will be routed through the Department of
Parks and Recreation for contracting with Lalakea Foundation.
The Department of Parks and Recreation has agreed to work closely with
Lalakea Foundation to assure that the Edith Kanaka'ole Tennis Stadium is available for
the planned event June 14-23, 2018.
On behalf of the County, I would like to thank the Lalakea Foundation for its
continued support and advancement of the perpetuation of Native Hawaiian arts and
spiritual practices. The work of the Foundation is now more important than ever in that
our families might be guided today and tomorrow by knowledge of the past and the
special values of the Hawaiian culture and Hawai'i's natural resources.
