Dear Mayors,
RE: Hawaii Council of Mayors Initiatives for the 2018 Legislative Session
In consideration of the Legislative Bill to address the Sunshine Law, with careful
consideration of the ramifications, and the seriousness of this bill, I feel it is
counter-productive.
I do believe that the Sunshine Law seriously handicaps the County government.
I strongly believe that it would be more productive if we as Counties, request a
review of the Sunshine Law to see how we could still follow the principles of the
Sunshine Law but give more flexibility for County Government to execute their jobs.
Although I appreciate the work that has been put into creating a County package
of bills, I cannot support the approach that is being taken on the Sunshine Law.
Therefore, rather than scuttle the effort of the Council of Mayors, may I suggest
that you submit your proposed letter without my signature.
