College of Pharmacy to hold community outreach to explain research
Members of the community are invited to learn more about research conducted at
UH Hilo’s Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy at the Inaugural DKICP
Research Day to be held at Prince Kuhio Plaza March 17.
The event, which will take place center court from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., will showcase
research on health issues such as cancer and infectious diseases. Faculty members
from the Departments of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacy Practice will be
on hand to explain the potential benefits their research will bring, along with
graduate students working on their Ph.D. degrees in pharmaceutical sciences and
student pharmacists from the professional Pharm.D. program.
“While the researchers are constantly explaining this high-level data to their
scientific peers throughout the world, they are re-configuring their presentations
in order to discuss their findings to a wider audience,” said Ghee Tan, director of
the Ph.D. program and organizer of the community outreach. “This exercise will
bring them out of their labs and clinical sites and out to meet the people who
might benefit from the research outcomes.”
Examples of booths that will be available are: Cancer Research, Rat Lungworm
Disease, Drug Discovery for Cancer and Infectious Diseases, Hawaiian
Traditional Medicine, Neuroscience, Nanomedicine, Interprofessional Education,
Opioid-related Casualties, and Antimicrobial Stewardship.
