Dear Mr. Dong:
I'm writing to thank you sincerely for your city's most gracious invitation for me to visit
Dujiangyan.
I want you to know how much I have gained through just talking with your delegation
regarding Mauna Kea and the Hawaiian people. I was overwhelmed at the offer to
support the mission of a beacon of hope and peace for Mauna Kea, and the
understanding of the wrongs done to the Hawaiian people.
I deeply apologize for being unable to avail myself of your gracious invitation. This is a
very busy time as we work on our Budget; it would not be setting a good example if I
were to leave the Island at this time. I do wish for a time when I will be able to visit your
beautiful country and your people.
I cannot say how grateful I would be if there were any possibility of your delegation
coming to Hawai'i to talk to the people here about China, to promote world peace, to
partner in making things better for the Hawaiian people, and to establish Mauna Kea as
a beacon of hope. This would accomplish so much for the people of Hawai'i.
Please know that the people of Hawai'i see China and its people as part of Hawai'i's
history and heritage. We wish for a good relationship with China.
Thank you again for your incredibly gracious offer of hospitality. I truly hope for a
continued personal friendship with you and your delegation.
