Dear Ms. Nagata,
RE: Environmental Impact Statement Preparation Notice for Land
Authorization for the Long-Term Continuation of Astronomy on
Mauna Kea
Thank you for the opportunity for the County of Hawai'i to provide
recommendations on the Environmental Impact Statement Preparation Notice (EISPN)
for land authorization for the long-term continuation of astronomy on Mauna Kea.
By letter dated October 14, 2017, Governor David Ige requested I, Mayor Harry
Kim, "lead and organize a working group of like-minded individuals to create a Living
Monument for World Peace on Mauna Kea." I have organized the working group, and
meetings are set to begin soon; thus, the working group will need a few months to
develop recommendations specific to the future of Mauna Kea.
On behalf of the working group, I ask that the Draft Environmental Impact
Statement (EIS) incorporate the working group's recommendations as additional
alternatives to those identified in the EISPN. Please do not issue the Draft EIS until
these recommendations have been presented. Thank you.
Sii tcer7.
