Thank you for thiis opportunity to testify in support of funding for activities ai
prevention and eradication of rat lungworm dliseiasser i. Until those goals have been achieved,
third worthy aim of the bill, clear,ly refleicted in the amendments (altholugh not speed in the
prrte amblle) is, better, treatment for those who fa,ll victim to thlis illneiss.
The Daniel' K. Inouye College of Pharmacy at the University of Ha,waat Hilo
established the Here wai'l Isilanid rat lungworm disease working group. I't has been conducting,
research and ed'uc,ational outreach on the disease for the past fouryears, and it is my

Apparently the Impact of this disease has been different in Hawaii „r: on the mainlanj
with unusually severe consiequienices reported for Hawai'i vict�ims,. Therefore, the funding of
local research is, uniquiely impiortant�.
