Subject: R-3 (One & Two-Family) Braced Wall Requirements
I. PROCEDURE PURPOSE
a. To provide a new prescriptive bracing solution for open air lanais and/or
carports with shed roofs.
II. RELEVANT LAW
a. Hawaii County Code Chapter 5 and International Building & Residential
Codes (IBC, IRC 2006 ed.)
III. SUMMARY OF LAWS
Attached Lanai Detail is being issued as a county-approved prescriptive
set of details, providing prescriptive solutions to allow columns at
attached lanais and/or carports with shed roofs. See detail drawings
provided by the County of Hawaii, Building Division, for prescriptive
requirements. Please specify on the plans which connection option is
being used at the post-beam connection, and which footing detail is being
used. Prescriptive detail must be precisely followed, with no
modifications, or calculations will be required.
